A little bit of sunshine

We've just returned from a little camping trip in the lovely Lake District. It was raining and pouring, as it does in the Lake District (so we hear) so we went on a driving tour of the lakes and museums, but it soon cleared up.

And when it did clear up, it was rather lovely. We walked. We hiked. We ate sandwiches.

It's such a beautiful time of year - there's such a lot of potential, and growth, and greenery.

There was a good deal of walking, and a good deal of stopping to admire the pretty countryside.

There was a lot of appreciation and newness.

There was a boat ride and a few gloomy clouds.

But those clouds make all the colours seem brighter and livelier.

We didn't hire Doris, though she tempted us. One ought to have a frilly brolly for a day on the Lake with Doris, methinks.

The camping bit was fun too. We woke up to the sound of birds each morning, we enjoyed fresh air (decidedly lacking from parts of London), and we managed to survive the rain.

Everybody needs wellington boots. Mine have pink polka dots, as they should. I just-about lived in them for the whole trip.

We finished up our little break in Oxfordshire at The Grandparents, where I was able to raid Granny's recipe book and do a bit of knitting, we spent lots of time strolling around the villages, and had a pub lunch on a bit of the Thames. There were swans.

Ah, country living. I could get used to this.
